Academy Cloud 9?

Don’t you hate it when real life gets in the way of your fandom?!

Well like a few hundred thousand other people in the Southern Hemisphere, I am about to start a new chapter of my life. I’m about to start university. Now being a Xenite, I see the world through chakram framed glasses.

It’s how I cope *shrug*.

So, in my head, I’m attending the Athens City Academy for Preforming Bards. Just because I’m not a kid anymore, it doesn’t mean I can’t pretend. Okay, well I’m not studying English Lit or anything, I’m studying History (yay), Anthropology (yay), Sociology (scary) and Geography (scary).

I went to actual campus the yesterday for a "Survival at Your Library" tour and to buy text books. The first thing that occurred to me was, how freaking huge the place was. I mean HUGE. It’s like it’s own self-contained world complete with pharmacy, dentist and tourist shop. Not really how I would imagine an ancient Greek bardic academy.

What it did remind me of, however, was Cloud 9 from Battlestar Galactica. That’s the luxury ship biodome that’s fashioned after Caprica. Basically it’s like Earth in a ship. Clear blue skies, trimmed green grass, lots of flowers and fancy buildings.

It’s beautiful, neat and, very artificial.

Sounds to me that all of that stuff is all in one place on your campus-to-be?

That's lucky, because I remember trying to hurry off to the next campus during out ten minute breaks, to attend classes there, and next period, another campus and ... blah? All over the city.

Seriously?! That's a weird way to set up a uni/college/school. :\

Our campus is so huge and I have to transverse it after every class without a minute to spare. How do they expect you to end one class at 10:00am then start you next one, like 1km away at 10:01am?!

Ugh. *shakes her fist at the class planners*

Oh, what a beautiful way of describing your school! I know how you feel, too. There have been times in the recent past when I've been about to do something scary, and I've taken comfort from the fact that I was wearing my chakram necklace. I love the idea of thinking of a cross between Athens City and Cloud 9.

Good luck in the next few days! When is your first class?

My first class is a Sociology lecture, tomorrow morning at 9 am. I swear I feel like i'm about to faint already.

I wear (or carry) something Gabrielle/Xena/Renee/Lucy related when I feel really nervous or unsure about something too! All my English exams were done with a picture of Little Jack (Renee in Ghost Town) in my pocket for good luck. ^.^

I know exactly what you mean! My campus is also huge and has a dentist, hairdresser, post office, bar, eating places, bookshop and the list goes on! Its insane! My campus is also very pretty, lots of green grass and pretty trees, a lake and all these little tranquil areas, it blows my mind!
When do your classes start? Mine start on Tuesday first up is Rome: From Republic to Empire" :)

Argh, lucky girl! Are you doing a Bachelor of Arts? Your subjects are way better then mine.

My first class is tomorrow morning. It's a Sociology lecture about "Social Construction of Identity". I'm soo nervous.

:'(

I hope everything works out for you at school. I was overwhelmed on my first day; I don't know if my school is as big as your school, but you'll get adjusted after a little while.

Thanks. I really hope I can stick it out and not run home with my tail between my legs. Thus the "I am going to the Athens City Academy for Preforming Bards" mantra.

I can do this. *calm breath and imagines Gabby meditating*
